Obituary of Tom H. Williams
Tom H. Williams, age 87 longtime Johnson County area farmer died Friday, June 10, 2022, at the Bird House, Hospice Home of Johnson County.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm Thursday, June 16, 2022, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service with Masonic Memorial Services beginning at 7pm. Graveside services will be held at 10am Friday June 17th, at the Welsh Church Cemetery, rural Sharon Center. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in his memory to the Shriners Hospitals for Children. Tom was born on April 1st, 1935, in a house on Kirkwood Avenue in Iowa City, Iowa the son of Everett and Louise (Hastings) Williams. Attending schools in Iowa City he graduated from City High School with the Class of 1955. While at City High he played football, was on the first wrestling team City had, and he was the kid that had a car and could drive then neighbor kids to school. On March 15, 1958, Tom married Karen S. Herrick. To this union three children were born, Guy, Sally and Andy. As the family grew the house grew and the farming operation evolved to include cattle, crops and hogs. With his children on the farm, Tom stressed learning farm safety, pitching in where you were needed and being involved in 4-H and school athletics. He never really retired and his support and mentorship carried over to his grandchildren’s activities.
Tom served proudly in the Iowa National Guard for over 20 years, became a Mason and was recognized as a fifty-year member. He earned his 33rd. degree to become a Shriner, and especially enjoyed riding with his Camel Wheels unit in the parades on the 3 wheelers. Tom also served his community on various boards and organizations including serving as a director for the Consumers COOP, Cattlemen’s Association, Zoning Board just to name a few.
Tom was proceeded in death by his parents and youngest son, Andy Williams.
His survivors include his wife, Karen; their children, Guy Williams, Sally Treiber and husband, Dan; grandchildren, Owen Treiber (Amanda), Quinn Treiber (Lauren), Casey Williams, Kelly Williams, and Danielle Williams (Michael Gardner); and two great-grandchildren, Jackson and Caroline Treiber.
