Obituary of Kathy Wittenberg

Kathy Lee Wittenberg passed away peacefully on April 7, 2022 in her home surrounded by her loved ones. She was 73 years old. Kathy was born on April 23, 1948 in Iowa City, Iowa, daughter of Otto and Mary Ellen Sasina. She was the oldest of five siblings. She graduated from City High in 1966 and married David Wittenberg on May 24, 1975. Kathy loved her family more than anything. She made sure to attend all her grandchildren’s events and loved to give gifts. She enjoyed gardening, the beauty of wild flowers, and going to the casino. Kathy and David built a life she was extremely proud of. She was always a joy to be around and will be missed by all who love her. Kathy and David have two children, Krista (Adam) Flake and Jeffery (Sherri) Wittenberg; she was blessed with four grandchildren: Amanda (Shawn) Port, Andrea (Zach) Murphy, Tomeka (Lauren) Magnani and Jesse Proctor; six great grandchildren: Olivia, Gage & Wyatt Port, Zoey & Nile Murphy and Eliana Magnani. Her surviving siblings are Jerry (Mary) Sasina and Tammy (Loras) Goedken. Sadly, Kathy is preceded in death by her sister Nita Gerdes and brother Chris (Myrna) Sasina. Visitation for Kathy will be held on Monday, April 11th, from 10:00am-1:00pm at Gay and Ciha (2720 Muscatine Ave., Iowa City), with funeral services to follow.
