I first met Maxine 18 years ago when she wanted to join the Red Hat Club. However she was not yet 50 so we told her she would have to wear a pink hat instead of a red one. That was fine with Maxine and two years later when she turned 60 we celebrated with champagne and a brand new red hat. Maxine was a talented woman. She pursued her writing and photography interests with flare. She had great enthusiasm for everything she did. When I invited her to a football game she decked herself out in black and gold for her first Hawkeye game. She loved to travel and was enthusiastic about places from Maine to California. She loved Paris and had hoped to return. Maxine was a good woman and a good friend. I shall miss my friend Maxine. Jane McCune
