Obituary of Alfonso Blackhawk

Alfonso Blackhawk, 72, began his journey on March 25th, 2022 surrounded by family at his home. Alfonso, known to many friends and family as “Poncho” was born February 24th, 1950 in Winnebago, NE to Henry Rave and Amelia Blackhawk. He was a proud member of the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska. After losing his mother and father at a young age, he was raised by Clara and Eunice, who he cherished deeply. In childhood, he played several sports and played them very well, earning many trophies and awards, even earning a special opportunity to try out for the New York Giants. While living on the reservation, he became a father to Avery Blackhawk, Adrienne Blackhawk and Amelia Whitewater. After traveling and seeing many states, he moved to Iowa, and on July 4th, 1975, he met the love of his life Georgia McAtee, and they spent the next 47 years together, making ever-lasting memories. Together they had Amelia (Kris), Mariah, Lacy, Brandon (Haley), Shawnee (Colin), Amber and Sierra. Poncho enjoyed playing bingo, dancing to the Blues, laughing and joking, he loved watching the Packers, Iowa basketball, Chicago Cubs, the Huskers, but what he loved most was horseshoes, that’s where his heart was, winning many trophies, attending several tournaments, and placing 1st at the Iowa Winter games. He’ll be remembered as someone who was extremely humble, kind to everyone, and never turned anyone away. He is survived by his wife Georgia, his children, 23 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren on the way. He was proceeded in death by his parents, his Choka Eugene, his brothers Bobby and Skippy, sisters Mary Kay and Marilyn, his childhood caregivers Clara and Eunice, his grandson Uriah, great- grandson Messiah, and several close friends and relatives. Alfonso’s wishes were to be buried next to his late mother-in-law, Shirley McAtee, whom he called “Shelly Lou” and shared a special bond with. A special thank you to nurse “Queen” at Mercy Medical Center, hospice and Daga John Blackhawk for his words and blessings.
