Lyndon Dalbey Crist was born February 3, 1944, in Minneapolis, MN, the son of Louis G. Crist and Mildred (Dalbey) Crist. Growing up in Clear Lake, Iowa, he graduated from high school there and the University of Iowa in Iowa City. He earned Masters degrees in Music Education from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and Graphic Design from Iowa. He taught vocal music and choir in several high schools in Iowa before returning to Iowa City where he worked as a graphic designer. Music remained an important part of his life in Iowa City as he belonged to the New Horizons Band and arranged music for several smaller musical ensembles. He also had special interests in Frank Lloyd Wright architecture and world history events.
His family includes his brother, Louis G. Crist Jr. and his wife, Janet; nephews, Todd Crist, Scott Crist and his wife, Kim; grand nephews, Samuel and Thomas Crist; and Lyndon’s dear friend, Janet Nelson.
Lyndon was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Linda Cox Crist; and several aunts and uncles.
Rather than a funeral service, Lyndon requested a private burial. Because of continuing concerns regarding Covid, a public celebration of Lyndon’s life will be held at a later date, location to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his memory to St. Olaf College, Music Program, Northfield, MN; Animal Welfare Friends, Monticello, IA; or Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA); or a charity of your choice.
