Larry F. Jiras was born on the family farm near Oxford on January 12, 1939, the first son of Wesley and Adelaide (Sedlacek) Jiras. Following graduation from Oxford High School with the Class of 1957, he enlisted in the National Guard. On May 17, 1960, he was united in marriage to Eileen Grauer at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oxford. They have made their home in Oxford for the past 61 years. Larry was a tank wagon driver for Consumers Coop for over 40 years. He was very much part of the community of Oxford, serving on the fire department for almost 60 years, the first responders for 32 years, the Oxford Lions Club for over 50 years, and a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. But all of this was nothing compared to the love for his family and friends (and dogs too).
His family includes his wife, Eileen; their children, Jeff Jiras, Tamara Jiras Smith (Brian Willingham) Paulette Hobbs (Darwin) and Jason Jiras (Stefanie); grandchildren, Brooke Casella (Tony), Mariah Benoit (Chance), Jordan Smith, Lauren Hobbs, Colton Hobbs, Trenton Hobbs, and Kaleb Graham; one great-grandson, Tanner; brother Raymond Jiras (Bonnie); sister-in-law, Mary Sue Jiras; and several nieces, nephews and his faithful furry companion, Griffin.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Eileen’s parents, George and Marie Grauer; sister, Carleen Kahle (Joe), and brother, James Jiras.
