Obituary of JoAnne Lawrence

JoAnne Lawrence passed away October 3, 2021 surrounded by family at her home in North Liberty. She was 81 years old. JoAnne’s family will receive guests for visitation at Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service on Tuesday, October 12, from 5-7 pm. JoAnne’s ashes will be laid to rest at the Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. JoAnne was born July 25, 1940 in Malcolm, Iowa, the daughter of William and Alma Louise Wolfe. JoAnne’s passion in her life was her family. She loved her family more than anything and was fiercely protective of them. She loved attending family events and spending time with her grand kids. She could be direct, and little stubborn at times, but it was through this tenacity that she showed her love. JoAnne will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Surviving JoAnne are her beloved children, Paul Lawrence and Amy (Gary) Mechtensimer; grand children, Maiya (Dylan Beane) Lawrence and Amanda Ostrander-Lawrence; great-grandson Grayson Beane; siblings, Michael (Cheri Sexton) Wolfe and Robert Wolfe; brother-in-law, Steve Eliason; and many nieces and nephews. Sadly, JoAnne is preceded in death by her parents, William and Alma Louise; sisters, Nora “Bea” Fulwider and Anita Eliason; brother Larry (Annette); and two infant siblings.
