Obituary of Melvin Dean Daniels

Melvin “Dean” Daniels, 81 of North Liberty went home to be with our Lord, Monday, August 5, 2019, peacefully in his sleep at home.

Funeral services will be held at 11am Wednesday, August 7, 2019, at the Iowa City Church of Christ , with burial to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 9am till services Wednesday at the church.  To share a thought, memory or condolence please visit the funeral home website @ www.gayandciha.com.

Dean was born July 7, 1938, in Monroe, Michigan the son of Howard and Cora (Moore) Daniels.  Following graduation from high school in Monroe he enlisted in the United States Army.  On February 7, 1959, he was united in marriage to Deanna J. Merrifield in Dayton, Ohio.  The couple and their family moved to Iowa City in 1960 where Dean worked Lear, formerly Sheller-Globe as a truck driver, retiring in 2002.  In retirement, he enjoyed driving for the Airport Limo Service.  Dean simply loved to drive!  But more important than driving and any job that he might have had was his family and his strong faith.  He and Deanna were longtime members of the Iowa City Church of Christ, and they raised their family in this tradition.

His family his children, Michael D. Daniels, Julie A. Webster (William), and Richard L. Daniels (Tonya); grandchildren, Shawna Mehaffy (Jason), Nicholas Daniels (Randi Schropp), Anthony Daniels (Kimberly), Brittany Murphy (Jason Stout), Jeremy Murphy (Amber Schnepf), Joseph Daniels (Keely), Bradley Daniels (Emily), Cassandra Davis (Jered);  great-grandchildren, Sean, Seth, Oliva,  Oliver, Alex, Keegan, Braeden, Blake, Colton, Savannah, Haidyn, Aubrey, Jase, Harley, Brhylee, Brody and Isla; sisters, Janice Edmondson (Bill) and Deborah Rogers (Mark); sisters-in-law, Linda Williams (Wayne) and Sandra Holdiman; and Ruth Merrifield and brother-in-law, David Merrifield (Lynn).

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Deanna;  granddaughter, Robyn K. Daniels; and siblings, Douglas, Alvin, Alfred Daniels and Vasel Maddox.
