Obituary of Betty L. Scaffinger

Betty L. Scaffinger, 86, longtime resident of this area died Sunday, July 28, 2019, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Funeral services will be held at 1pm Wednesday, July 31, 2019, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service, with burial to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm Tuesday at the funeral home.  For a complete obituary, to send a memory, thought or condolence for her family please visit the funeral home website @ www.gayandciha.com.

Betty Lee Studer was born July 14, 1933, in Mechanicsville, Iowa the daughter of Morris and Geneva (McCormick) Studer.  She attended and graduated from schools in Mechanicsville.  Betty was united in marriage to Edward Scaffinger on April 12, 1961, in Anamosa.  The couple made the home in Iowa City where they raised their family and Betty had worked at Younkers Beauty Salon for over ten years and later for Hawkeye Lumber as a bookkeeper.  Family was very important to Betty, to the point she enjoyed researching her family and belonging to Iowa City Genealogical Society.

Her family includes her children, Kathy Michel (Ken), Mike Scaffinger, Mark Scaffinger, Dan Scaffinger, and Linda Ritter; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers,  Dale “Todd” Studer (Clarice) and Darrel Studer (Karen) and sister-in-law, Phyllis Studer. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Edward; children, Judy Pettit, Anita Frailey and Richard Scaffinger; brothers, Gary Studer, Don Studer and Merle McCormick.
