Shirley was an amazing woman and positive influence on my life. I'm so fortunate to have known her. Much love and respect.

I met Shirley through EF foundation. My husband knew her through the Ankeny Presbyterian Church and she volunteered to host an exchange student for a year. Her student, Silvia de Bona, contacted me through Facebook to give me this sad news. Shirley also helped us another year taking a student who had many problems and helped her be able to finish her school year in the US. She was such a kind and caring person. She also did volunteer work with me at the nearby elementary school and later at the middle school as well. She had so much patience and goodness that showed in all she did. I sent this link to Silvia and I know she wrote back to Tim through the email he had sent her. She really wanted to share some thoughts with you as well. I will always have the fondest memories of Shirley. She was thoughtful, smart, and energetic. She would host me for coffee at her home and we would have the most wonderful conversations. I am a better person for having known her!

Sincere sympathy to your family. Shirley was such a wonderful board member for United Campus Ministry while I was the director. She supported the outreach to students and provided much encouragement to me. I was glad to see her at Oaknoll and share directly my appreciation. She is missed.
