Condolences
So sorry to hear of Rick' s passing. He was a great step-brother and awesome father and husband. I'm sure he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Sincere sympathy for your loss, from a former co-worker and forever friend.
Always love,
Marita Stewart
We were saddened to hear of Rick's sudden passing. He was a kind, soft-spoken listener, and group facilitator volunteer at the Crisis Center. We found Rick to be a source of understanding support, comfort, and strength through his presence during meetings of the Coping with Suicide Loss Support Group, following the death of our son, Tyler, five years ago. Each Support Group meeting concluded with each person present, sharing something positive and uplifting they were going to do for themselves. With Rick, it was invariably looking forward to spending time with his family. Our sincere sympathy to Rick's family. He was a good man. Sincerely, Hodge Carter and Cindy Gampka
Nancy and Angie,
I am so sorry to hear of Ricks passing. I will always have the fondest memories of him putting Ainslie up in a tree, playing his guitar, and that smile. My thoughts are with you all.
Love,
Amanda
We're so sorry to get the news. We thought we had all kinds of time to re-start our evenings with Rick and Nancy, but we were so wrong again. More of that Would Have, Could Have, Should Have, all over again.
We and the world have lost a really good man to know and respect!!
Terry and Harriet Van Gilder
Nancy,
My deepest condolences, I am so sorry to hear this sad news.
You and your family are in my prayers.
To Rick's family:
I am stunned to hear of Rick's death. Due to family commitments, I will be unable to be in Iowa City on Saturday, but will be with you in spirit that day.
Rick and I worked together for many years on the ARC-210 at Collins. We rarely saw each other outside of the plant, but at work I never knew a nicer, more pleasant person. Rick would always take the time to help me solve the problem at hand. His work ethic was outstanding, and his knowledge of the equipment was over the top. I considered him a true friend, someone that I could always count on.
Rick always shared his garden produce, especially the peppers, during breaks. Someone would provide a sharp knife, and we would all sample the sliced peppers. These sessions sometimes resulted in red faces and tears, and lots of laughter.
Rick once shared some of his music with me. He gave me a well worn cassette tape that he had made in his studio, with him playing several parts and singing. It as a sad and haunting song, and it made a big impression on me. He subsequently asked for the tape back, and said he would provide another with a "better" version of the song. Although I bugged him about it for a long time, he never did give me another tape. I think the music was just too personal to him, and I wondered if it was about Gabe.
We were out driving one day a year or so back and came upon Forever Green Road. We had stopped by the house one time many years ago, so we tried to find it again but everything looked so different that we finally gave up. I am so sorry that we weren't successful that day, as it would have been fitting for me to congratulate Rick on his retirement and let him know once again how much he was appreciated by those of us who had worked with him. Rick, you are missed by many.
Mike Rieff
My most sincere condolences to Nancy and family for their untimely loss. Just very recently, Rick twice interrupted bike rides to stop and offer me his condolences and extended comforting comments. This is a sad reversal but his kindness won't be forgotten.
I worked with Rick at Rockwell. We worked on many broken circuits and assemblies. He was never in a panic no matter how dire the problem. He could indeed fix anything. I always enjoyed working with him. I will miss him.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family, Nancy. May many happy memories wrap around you.
Nancy and family. Tim and I are so sorry to learn of Rick's passing. You are in our thoughts and prayers. We are now living in North Carolina to be near Matt's family so we won't be able to attend Rick's funeral.
My thoughts and prayers are with you Nancy and your family. It was only a couple weeks ago that we visited in Zio's. Please know that I am thinking of you. You were wonderful neighbors to me on 12th. God's Peace.
My thoughts are with Angie and her family. I wish them whatever comfort is possible in such a trying moment.
Rita and I worked with Rick for a number of years at Rockwell and were saddened to hear of his passing. You are in our thoughts and prayers
It was truly a pleasure to work with and know Rick. He touched so many lives for the good. Thinking of you and wishing you comfort and prayers.
Nancy and Angie my deepest condolences to you! I am saddened to see this! I wish you comfort in the coming days, weeks, months, years! Love to you both!
I am so deeply stunned to learn about Rick’s passing. How interesting I listened to Tull all day yesterday and Stevie Ray Vaughn is playing now. I know Rick helped David a lot when we lost Seth. He was so well thought of in the Rockwell circle. He will be missed by so many. Nancy and family, my heart breaks for you and the stormy days ahead. Take comfort that are many of us thinking and praying for you.
I am truly saddened to hear about Rick. Rick was considered one of my greatest coworkers and friends at Rockwell Collins. Rick always had a smile on his face and could make our work a fun event due to his attitude and fun personality. Rick was always willing to help in any way he could. Some of Rick's solutions to issues at work I deal with on a daily basis. We had many great times. Will miss him but never forget him.
Rick was a great guy. I am very sorry to hear of his passing. Always had great conversations at Rockwell break time about music and life. I still have the turntable from the radio station that Rick gave me years ago. I am sure he will be greatly missed by friends and family, please accept my condolences.
My late husband, Steve Blair, thought very highly of Rick. They were coworkers and friends. I am so sorry for your loss. Jenny Blair
