Mary Elizabeth Reed was born January 23, 1926, in Springville, Iowa, one of 9 children born to Richard and Mary (Tisdale) Reed. Following graduation from high school in Springville, she attended Paris Beauty School in Cedar Rapids. This was the beginning of a career as a beautician that she so enjoyed well past her 85th birthday! On January 20, 1947, she was united in marriage to Frank Junior Roberts at the First Presbyterian Church in Iowa City. Frank being born and raised on “I” street in Iowa City thought that they should make their home here on “I” street, which they did and continued to this day.
Mary enjoyed much in her long life, playing bingo, bridge, many sorts of cards, liked going to the casino, doing crafts, crossword puzzles, tending to her flower and rose gardens, bowling on many leagues with Frank over the years, and their involvement in Jaycees in their younger years, and of course her longtime membership at First Presbyterian Church. But nothing compared to the joy of being Mom, Grandma and Great-Grandma to her family! As recently as a month ago Mary enjoyed a trip to Colorado to visit her family. She was the technology Grandma, last Tuesday she was able to Face Time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren on her iPad, which brought her much joy!
Her family includes her two children, Ron and his wife, Linda Roberts and Deb Roberts; granddaughters and their spouses, Jennifer and Jeff Poznonovic and Kelli and Steve Schow; three great-grandchildren, Wesley and Robyn Schow and Lilly Poznonovic; sister-in-law, Carol Roberts and granddog, Gunner. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Frank; and her eight siblings, Lucille Bedinger, Russell, Dick, Bob, Ralph, Bill, Gene and Jack Reed.
