Obituary of Albert R Fetters
Albert R. Fetters, 86, of Iowa City, passed away Sunday, June 24, 2018.
Graveside services with military honors will be held 10 am, Saturday, June 30th at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. A time of visitation will be held from 5-7 pm, Friday at the Gay & Ciha Funeral Service in Iowa City. Memorials in Albert’s name may be made to the Albert Fetters Memorial Fund.
Albert Raymond Fetters was born June 17, 1932, in Ft. Scott, Kansas; son of Elmer and Thelma (Shumate) Fetters. During the Korean War, he served with the Navy on the USS Macon. In November of 1965, Albert married Patty Lou Rogness. He had a dedicated career with the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Iowa City, retiring in 1996 after 34 years. Albert had a passion for firearms and target shooting with friends and family and always enjoyed his morning coffee with friends at Hy-Vee.
His family includes his wife, Patty; son, Toby Fetters (Cindy) of Iowa City; siblings, Altis Tisdale of Arkansas and William “Bill” Fetters of Mt. Vernon; step-children, Robert Rogness, Kelli McBride and her children, Drew and Mercedes and Forrest Rogness (Diane) and their daughter Anna; Mercedes son (great-grandson), Jude as well as numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Charles, Cecil, Elmer “Gene”, and Ruth Ann and step-daughter, Mary Stickney.
Albert’s family would like to acknowledge the compassionate and kind care provided to Albert and their family by Lantern Park Care Center and Iowa City Hospice.
