Obituary of Janet A Erickson

Janet A. Erickson, 80, of Iowa City passed peaceably away on Friday, June 1st, 2018.

Janet was born May 27, 1938, the daughter of Kenneth and Geneva Hursey, in Dubuque, Iowa.

She is survived by her sons, John of Tiffin, Iowa and David and his wife Lori of Iowa City and her grandchildren, Christian and Abigail. Her sisters Shirley of Iowa City and Mary of Burlington, Iowa also survive as do three nieces, Janina, Rina, and Mary Christine. She was preceded in death by her parents and oldest son, Lee.

Janet graduated from Burlington High School and Southeastern Community College in West Burlington. In 1980 she became part of the original management group that brought cable TV to Iowa City with Hawkeye CableVision. Following her early retirement from the Cable TV industry, she finished her career as Supervisor of the Accessories Department at Von Maur.

Janet was an avid reader, writer, and lifelong learner. She was members of many groups and volunteered at many places throughout her life. Janet loved all her special friends and appreciated how sincerely they touched her life.

An informal visitation will be held from 9-11am on Monday June 11th at Gay and Ciha Funeral Home. Janet’s cremated remains will be interred at the Rockdale Cemetery in Dubuque Iowa following the visitation at 1:30 pm. In lieu of flower’s memorial donations may be made to the Herbert Hoover Foundation to be applied toward the Uncommon Student Awards.
