Wayne D. Chapman was born on the family homestead near North English, Iowa, the son of Clifford and Ada (Robinson) Chapman and great-grandson of Abraham Owen.  He attended the one-room school in Hinkletown and graduated from Wellman High School.  He has worked a variety of jobs over the years, from his days on the farm, drove semi-trucks, worked as a certified ASE mechanic locally, then owned and operated Chapman’s DX service station in Hills, went to pipefitter school then spent the next 20 years in that work, and retired from owning and operating the Hill Tap.

Chapy served his country in the United States Army, was one of the founding members of the Hills Town & Country Club, served over 30 years on the Hills Volunteer Fire Dept., and a term as Mayor of Hills.  He often would reflect that his proudest achievement as Mayor was getting more playground equipment installed in town.  In addition to his work, community service, Chappy enjoyed finding good places to eat and of course his motorcycles, always owning more than one!

His family includes his wife, Sheila; their children, Greg and Daniel Chapman; brothers, Harold Chapman (Margaret) and Ronald Chapman (Sheila); sisters-in-law, Velda Chapman and Jean Burr.  Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, James, Russell and Joseph.
