Obituary of Kathleen Tichy

Kathleen “Kathy” Tichy, 71, of Solon, died Tuesday, May 22, 2018, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Funeral services will be held at 11am Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Solon, where visitation will be from 9am Tuesday until services and following services during the reception at the church.  In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in her memory to the Iowa Donor Network (which even in her death she supported) or the Palliative Care Unit of the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics c/o University of Iowa Foundation. Kathleen Kuhn was born February 6, 1947, in Kingsley, Iowa the daughter of Laurence J. and Emma I. (Schieuer) Kuhn.  Following graduation from Kingsley-Pierson High School in 1965, she attended and received her Registered Nursing Degree from the former St. Joseph School of Nursing in Sioux City, Iowa.  She was united in marriage to Steven Paul Tichy on September 2, 1972, in Kingsley, and that year the couple moved to Solon where they had resided until their deaths.  Kathy enjoyed much in her life, she was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Solon, she enjoyed traveling the country, or simply a random day trip, enjoyed her many friends near and far, but most dear to her was her family, especially her grandkids, and Grandma just couldn’t get enough of them ever!

Her family includes her two daughters, Beth Golden (Michael) of Vinton and Amy Tichy of Solon; grandchildren, Kayden, Nicholas, Steven, Grant Golden, and Emily Claypool (Damien); great-granddaughter, Willow Claypool; Kathy’s siblings, Barbara Jakiela, Vincent Kuhn (Alana), Pauline “Polly” Kuhn, Janice Schacherer (Bob), Margaret “Meg” Brosey (Mike), and Ralph Kuhn (Karla); their sister-in-law, Judy “Short” Kuhn; and Steve’s family his siblings, Charles Tichy (Bonnie), Rich Tichy (Pam), and SuAnn Tichy; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Steve; brother, Leo Kuhn and brother-in-law, David Tichy; and her faithful companion Turbo.
