Obituary of Kay Ekwall
Kay Ekwall, 70, of Iowa City, died Thursday, May 17, 2018, at her home surrounded by those she dearly loved.
There will be a time of visitation from 4 to 7pm Monday, May 21st at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service. Funeral services will be held at 11 am Tuesday, May 22nd at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in her memory. Kay was born September 2, 1947 in Iowa City the daughter of John Edward “Ed” and Dorothy (Kelleher) Ekwall. Growing up she attended and graduated from Regina High School. For many years she worked as an Administrative Services Coordinator for the University of Iowa and the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics retiring recently.
Kay enjoyed her life, she was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. In fact, there was nothing more important to Kay than her family. She attended school and sporting events and was always so proud! You could catch Kay spending her weekends with her family, preparing a delicious roast dinner, watching the Chicago Cubs, Nascar, or her favorite Iowa Hawkeyes. Not only did Kay have her family, but she was also blessed with faithful friends, generous neighbors, and caring “Bus Buddies.”
Her family includes her five children, Brenda Nogaj, Tami Frantz (Tim), Traci Miller (Jeff), Mike Reynolds (Jen), and Sherry Reynolds-Miller (Ted); grandchildren, Adam Nogaj (Lindsey), Allie Nogaj (Tommy), Kelsey Nogaj, Taylor Nogaj (Vonnie), KJ Smith, Steph Smith, Tate Frantz, Tim Miller, Brittany Miller, Jordan Miller (Samantha), Riley Reynolds, Faith Reynolds, Paige Miller, Peyton Miller; great-grandchildren, Ava Nogaj-Moses, Evalyn Nogaj, Tre Coleman, Carson Miller, Carter Miller; and Kay’s sister-in-law, Nancy Ekwall.
Kay was preceded in death by her parents, brother, John; and former husband, Mick Reynolds.
