Dear Dave, Lana and Mrs. McAllister,
I am so sorry to hear this sad news. It has been a long time since I have seen Big Dave, but the first things that come to my mind when I think of him are his humor and how he was always so welcoming. He was a great guy. Thinking of you and your family and sending my love.
Dan
Alice, David and Lana, I am so sorry of the passing of David. I know he will be greatly missed by everyone.
I won't be able to make the funeral service since I will be out of town on Saturday, however, I would love see you Alice. Please call me sometime (319-430-2910.)
We are so sorry to hear this news. We knew Dave back when he worked at Sears Optical and kept in touch for years after that. When we were newly married he helped us with all of our insurance needs. He was not just an astute business person, but so very personable and a true friend. It’s been nearly 30 years since we first met him. He crossed paths with so many people in his life but he knew how to make each one feel special. We were lucky to know him.
With sincerest sympathy, Kerri and Gary
Dave will be greatly missed! I was lucky enough to work with him driving school buses. His sense of humor and contagious laugh were always welcome. I had a kid several years ago that had his eye "poked out" with one of those mysterious "flying" gloves. The kid was in a serious panic about being blind. I called on the radio for advice and Dave was the only one to answer. The kid did exactly what Dave told him to do and after a few minutes he proclaimed "OMG I CAN SEE AGAIN!!" He even made me pass on his grateful Thank You over the radio! Hugs and prayers to the family!
My deepest condolences to Alice, Dave, and Lana. It’s with great sadness that I learned of his passing but I’ve enjoyed reminiscing the last few days of a wide array of memories I have of Big Dave. I always enjoyed talking and joking around with him, and I always felt welcome in the McAllister home. For years, each time I would see him we would shake hands and try to crush each other’s grip. At times, he would let me think I had him but inevitably he would leave me wincing in pain. Big Dave was like a second father to me and I’m glad I got to see him recently after many years. He will be missed.
