Adelaide A. Cochran
1919 - 2018
Condolences
Please accept my condolences. I regret that I was not able to attend nor bring my mother, Dorothy Erusha Votroubek, to either the visitation nor the funeral.
I have many memories of my parents, Dorothy and Emil, talking about the Cochrans and extended Svoboda families. We spent times watching my parents play cards at Leon and Marvel's house and I have connected with Sheri in Oregon where one of our sons live. I recently visited Dutchess Cleaners where we had a wedding dress cleaned and told the story of the origin of the name from Dutch. It wasn't that many years ago that I was touring cemeteries with my parents and ran into Wilma Cole, whom I didn't know but my parents immediately recognized her and were thrilled to think that we had such a coincidental meeting. My mother, Dorothy, will soon be turning 99 as well.
We have all been blessed for the longevity of these strong women.
To Judy and your families, i am so sorry to learn of Adelaide's Passing! She was a woman who never knew a stranger! The first time i met Adelaide was at the Iowa City sale barn, little did i know when we moved to Oxford we would meet again. I was so excited when she gave me a couple of her pie recipes, now i know what a fool i was to think i could make delicious pies like her. Every time i would make a pie George would say, "no" not like Adelaide's, that isn't her recipe. What a fool i was to think i could compete with her! When i would tell her she would just smile and say, keep it up you will get it! Adelaide and Muriel were the rock and strength of this town!! They leave many beautiful memories behind! My thoughts and prayers are with all of you! Sandy Hora
Adelaide & Murrel were neighbors & friends when I was growing up. Adelaide continued be be a good friend for many years. We had something in common as we both lost children at a young age. You couldn’t have had a better friend, will miss her very very much! Love Carrie
So sad to hear of Adelaide's passing She was like an aunt if not a grandmother to me and my brothers and sisters. How many enjoyable moments we has listening to Dutch, Polly, Mere and Adelaide talk about the times they shared farm equipment and tasks together when the Cochrans lived on the land know as Cellman's corner just up the hill north of the Stockman farm. Dad really enjoyed working at the sale barn on Tuesdays with Merle and I think Adelaide always gave him an extra serving of food that day. The best tenderloins anywhere! I know he got free pie.
I was always amazed that Adelaide was one of the few people who knew I was the first of the twins, Dave the second.
Nothing but happy memories to a wonderful lady!

Cochran family,
At a time like this it's hard to find the right words to comfort. I only hope that knowing others care is of some comfort in your loss. Adelaide was a wonderful lady and will be missed by everyone that had the honor of knowing her. May God bless the Cochran family.

Adelaide...A legend in my book! She and Mureil always made me feel like I was family! I learned a lot of great life lessons sitting under their apple tree with the legendary duo! Growing up 2 doors down....I feel very blessed that I got to experience these 2 wonderful people! In the future, when my wife and I are lucky enough to have a child, I will be sure to tell them about these 2 pillars of our community!!
