Obituary of Josef C. Gindorff
Josef Charles Gindorff, 38, of Coralville, died Monday, April 16, 2018, in his home as family and Father Chuck Adam said prayers for his journey to everlasting life. He had gracefully battled cancer for over two years.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 am Saturday, April 21, 2018, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Coralville. There will be a visitation from 9:00-11:30. A luncheon and time for fellowship will take place following the mass. In lieu of flowers, an educational fund has been established in Josef’s memory to benefit his and Nicol’s two children, Lucy and Benjamin.
Josef was born January 11, 1980, in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Nicholas and Marjorie Gindorff. He graduated from Dubuque Wahlert High School in 1998. Following graduation, he earned his degree in business from St. Thomas University in St. Paul, MN. In July of 2011, Josef married Nicol Sadler of Waterloo. Josef followed in his uncle’s footsteps with a successful 16 year career as a sales representative for V. Mueller Surgical Instrument Company. His territories included Cincinnati, Minneapolis, and the greater Iowa area.
Growing up near Peosta, Josef enjoyed working with his family on their rural land. He participated in many RAGBRAIs with his family across Iowa. While in high school, Josef enjoyed being a part of the basketball and golf teams. In college, he continued his love of golf as a member of the St. Thomas golf team. He also spent a semester studying in London. He appreciated his travel adventures that took him around the world. Josef cherished time with Nicol, their children, Lucy and Benjamin and beloved dog, Hayden Rose. They all enjoyed being outdoors in the beauty of nature. Josef was always the first to point out the moon at night, a beautiful sunrise or sunset, or the wondrous rolling hills of Iowa farmland. He had a sincere appreciation for nature and the wonder of his surroundings. He and Nicol were avid Iowa Hawkeye fans, attending a countless number of games. Josef was known by his friends and co-workers for his kind, modest, hardworking and genuine personality.
A fun conversation recorded by a good friend said it best, when they were walking down the fairway one morning… “Ricky, you smell that! I love the smell of fresh cut grass.” With a big smile, followed by Josef’s patented chuckle he said… “I love doing this with you, waking up early, getting in a round of golf…it doesn’t get much better than this.”
Josef’s family includes his wife and best friend, Nicol; their children, Lucy and Benjamin; his parents, Nicholas and Marjorie Gindorff; sister, Anna Brady and her husband, Chris, their daughter, Evelyn; Josef’s in law’s, Gregory and Joyce Sadler; his brother-in-law, Eric Sadler and his wife, Jessica; their sons Dominick and Owen; and many loving cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends.
