I was so shocked and saddened to hear of Josef's passing. I was one of his customers and always enjoyed a visit from Josef. He also had his beaming smile leading the way and was always great to talk to and very helpful. He worked with several of us at Mary Greeley and he shall be greatly missed by us all. When I shared with coworkers this sad news, everyone was deeply saddened and wished they could have reached out to tell Josef and his family how much he meant to us. Our prayers and sympathies are with his family and coworkers.
I'm devastated for you all. I worked with Josef at V. Mueller several years ago, and what a class act. Josef was an inspiration and someone no one could ever forget. Rest in peace, Josef.
Gindorff Family,
I am so sorry for your loss. I have such fond memories of the time I spent with your family at camp. The kindness and love that you shared with each other created such a positive atmosphere and truly provided an environment for children to flourish. I remember the spirit that Josef had and always considered Josef and Anna to be role models throughout the time I shared with them. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
I am so sorry to hear about Josef's passing. I was Gretchen's roommate in college and I had the privilege to meet Josef on numerous occasions. If you knew Gretchen at all, you knew that she had 2 cousins who were like her siblings, Josef and Anna. She spoke of Josef often, and when she did it was always with such love and admiration. When I heard of his cancer I had such a positive attitude about it because Gretchen did. I know he will be missed dearly. I am so sorry for all of those who knew him.
Please accept my heartfelt sympathy. I met Josef through my job at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. He was always cheerful and spoke affectionately of his family often. Josef was highly regarded by all as someone of great integrity and a true professional. I can't imagine how much he will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Dear Friends,
It is with a truly sad heart that I write to offer my condolences and prayers. I only knew Josef as a young boy but if he was your son then I know he was a wonderful person. You would have filled him with the joy of learning, the love of the land and all it encompassed, the joie de vive that was who you were as a family.
I read a wonderful passage somewhere and share it in the hopes it brings some peace.
When we go into our garden we always choose the most beautiful, colorful, brilliant blooms........ so does God.
With much love, Marilynne Field
Nick, Marge and Family,
We are so sorry to hear of your loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with you in this time of sadness.
In sympathy,
Tom, Junko and Family
I was saddened to hear of Josef's passing. I knew him through my job at Mercy in Cedar Rapids. He was always so helpful and friendly getting instrument quotes for me and doing things personally to help me with my job in the hospital. He will be missed, and thinking of his family. Craig J. Canavan
Your family is in our thoughts and prayers. So sorry for your loss.
So sorry to hear the news of Josef, please know that your family is in our prayers. I went to elementary school with him and had Nic as a teacher. We had some fun times and couldn’t wait to play another game of softball!
I am so very, very sorry to hear of your loss. My heart goes out to you and your family. It’s difficult to know what to say, I can’t even imagine the grief, but if there is ever anything I could possibly do to help, don’t hesitate to ask. God bless.
Deepest Sympathy from The Noonan's - Andy, Shannan, Emma, Kale, Macy and Drew. I know its been a long time since I have seen Joe but I remember him Playing ball for the Monastery Little League Team against my brother Nic and I for the Fillmore Team a LONG time ago. He was a good athlete and a really nice guy so sorry to see him go. God bless and we are praying for you.
Dear Ginforff Family,
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Josef was such a great guy. He was always making people smile and always had kind words to say. My heart goes out to all of you as you mourn the loss of such a great guy!

Dear Gindorff family -
My heart goes out to you all. I've been praying for Joe every night since I found out about his illness. God's graces are upon him! I knew Joe at Wahlert and then also at St. Thomas. He was consistently one of the kindest people I knew. I can remember conversations with Joe even more vividly than many of my closest friends because he listened so attentively and he always made me feel important. I'd bump into Joe randomly in Minneapolis over the years and he always treated me with the same respect and kindness that everyone knew him for. Everyone loved "Joe Money!" It was fun bumping into him a few summers ago on Ragbrai too!
Though we can't possibly understand why this happened to Joe, I trust in a plan. The poem below has helped me many times. I hope you find peace in it too. With love, Michelle (Domeyer) Barnette
The Plan of the Master Weaver
"My life is but a weaving
Between the Lord and me;
I may not choose the colors–
He knows what they should be.
For He can view the pattern
Upon the upper side
While I can see it only
On this, the under side.
Sometimes He weaves in sorrow,
Which seems so strange to me;
But I will trust His judgment
And work on faithfully.
‘Tis He who fills the shuttle,
And He knows what is best;
So I shall weave in earnest,
And leave to Him the rest.
Not ’til the loom is silent
And the shuttles cease to fly
Shall God unroll the canvas
And explain the reason why.
The dark threads are as needed
In the Weaver’s skillful hand
As the threads of gold and silver
In the pattern He has planned."
With condolences, prayers for Josef, Nicol, Lucy, Benjamin, and relatives
in his honor.

Dear Gindorff Family
My sincerest condolences on the loss of Joe. I did not know Joe well but was lucky enough to have had some mutual friends during his time in Cincinnati. He was a truly good man who had a big impact on me and always treated me like a friend. I remember him always with that contagious smile that drew everyone in and made their day brighter. I probably haven’t seen him in 10 years but can still picture his face as if I saw him yesterday. He had that kind of impact on people. He was genuine and kind and will be greatly missed. I didn’t know Joe well, but I did know him and I am thankful and better off for that. No doubt that there are many in his life, even in a small way, who feel the same.
Nick and Margie,
Paul and I would like to express our deepest condolences. We were saddened to hear of Josef's passing. We didn't know Josef well, but we did have the pleasure of knowing him through you two and biking. Nick, I've known you since high school and the Leo Kraus days. I know your strong faith will get your family through this hard time. Heaven gained another angel indeed
. You two can be extremely proud of how you raised your children. Our prayers will be for your family's and Josef's family's strength to accept God's plan.

Gindorff family,
I want to send my deepest condolences, thoughts, and prayers to all of you. Joe Money, as his golf teammates will always know him, was one of the most genuine guys I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. I have so many amazing memories of him but I would say his smile and sly sense of humor are the two that stick in my mind the most. And who can forget the only teenage boy I have ever seen proudly use persimmon woods in a high school golf meet in the late 1990's. Just some of the hundreds of amazing memories I will always hold dear.
Please know that all of you are and will continue to be in my family's thoughts and prayers,
Tim O'Neill
Nick and Margie,
So sorry for your loss. I heard so many stories of young Josef when I was in Mr. Gindorff's class at Bernard Elementary. What a wonderful life he has led. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

So many of my childhood memories involve Josef and the Gindorff family. His kind and quiet demeanor were always such a blessing. I will cherish memories of late start school days where we would play scrabble together at the kitchen table and family canoe trips.
We will continue to pray for Joseph’s sweet family and offer you our most heartfelt condolences. Heaven has gained and incredible soul this week!
Dear Margie, Nick and Family,

My sincere condolences to the Gindorf family! As a Bernard Elem alumni, I am proud to say that I remember Josef being a kind, bright, athletic young man who deeply respected his father. I will always remember a quote he told his Dad. “Work smarter, not harder!” Rest In Peace Josef!
I am very sorry for your loss. I never met Josef but his dad was my teacher at Bernard Elementary (one of the best). I remember Mr. Gindorff sharing stories of golfing and biking with his son. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.
Margie & Nick

Praying for your whole family and I am so sorry for your loss. I am so sad to hear of his struggles with cancer. I pray that he is at peace. Josef and I were in elementary school together at Bernard elementary and his father one of my favorite teachers. We shared a classroom and I have memories of him always being very kind, intelligent and athletic.
As a neighborhood kid on Monastery road we would spend many a day riding bicycles down the private lane or sledding down the field next to the animal outbuilding. So sorry to hear of this Sad news, your Family will be in my thoughts and prayers
My sympathy for the loss of Josef. He and my son, Jared were good friends in grade school and he came to our farm to play many times during that time. He was a great kid! Blessings to the Gindorff family!

I worked with Joe for 2 summers at Loras Sports camp. He was a wonderful counselor and an amazing person. My thoughts are with his entire family during this time.
This brings tears to my eyes...Nick & Margie you loved so many children thru the years, but I know there was no greater love to give than what you had for Josef & Anna. You all are in my thoughts and prayers...
There is not a memory I have from Kindergarten-6th grade that doesn't include Josef. From softball and football at recess, to outdoor ed, to planning a haunted house on the stage at Bernard in sixth grade, we always had so much fun together. While I haven't seen Josef in quite some time, I will always remember him as a kind and genuine kid, and I have no doubt that is exactly the kind of man he grew to be.
My deepest and most heartfelt condolences to Josef's entire family, I know that he will be missed beyond measure.
Thoughts and prayers are with you all at this most difficult time.
Amber (Felton) Carroll
Dear families,
Your families are in my thoughts and prayers. I worked for Mr. Gindorff for 16 years. One of my memories was on every Monday Nic was writing a letter to Josef to send to him every week. We know Nic didn’t like computers. On Fridays the whole family would meet at school to go to Bluff Lake so they could get there early.
Josef will be greatly missed by a lot of people. Todd and Jenna sent their smypathy too.
My smypathy,
Janine Capesius
Josef will always be remembered as an incredibly bright and kind human being. Though many years younger than me, I admired these qualities in him. We who knew him are fortunate for the opportunity.
Joe and I met in 2002 when we were both foreigners to Cincinnati. He “picked me up” at LA Fitness after spotting my Hawkeye basketball shorts and we became instant friends. Joe was never afraid to approach new people with a friendly introduction. He defined the modern Iowa Nice.
“Westy!” he’d cry out when seeing each other. “Let’s go play tennis! Let’s grill out (on his 9 inch hot plate carried out to the front steps of his apartment)! Let’s go to Party in the Park! Let’s throw the football around! Let’s go to the pajama party at Beluga on Tuesday night!” Josef was always campaigning to do something. Anything. Just get out and live life to the fullest he could any particular day. His spirit to go experience is contagious. He did it right and I will always remember that about him. I’m going to miss Joe, but I feel fortunate to have benefited from having him in my life.

Great memories of a wonderful young man. We will miss him very much. Much love to his family

Dear Gindorff Family:
Please accept our condolences on the loss of your son, Josef. Your Josef was a good friend of our son, John Fitzgerald. We would often see Josef after Mass on Sunday or at a social gathering during our visits to Cincinnati. My wife and I found your son to be a fine gentleman. We cannot begin to appreciate the depth of your loss. We hope you find some consolation knowing that you raised an excellent son; and, some peace knowing that he now enjoys his heavenly home. May the peace of Christ be with all of you at this most difficult time.
Ed and Karen Fitzgerald
Every Time Joe walked into my Office to talk about his future, hè brought so much joy and great dreams! I treasured our conversations. I remember his early feelings of not feeling able to leave Dubuque, but after UST, hè was so ready for a larger world. His love for people and kind heart touched and charged everyone hè knew. Hè was and is God’s very own .
