Obituary of Mary C. Ford

Mary C. Ford, 94, of Iowa City, passed away Friday, March 16, 2018 at Pioneer Park Care Center in Lone Tree.

Funeral mass will be held 10 am, Thursday, March 22nd at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Iowa City with burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.  Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-6 pm at the Gay & Ciha Funeral Service with a rosary service beginning at 6 pm.  Online condolences may be shared with Mary’s family at www.gayandciha.com.

Mary Catherine Long was born August 9, 1923, in Bancroft, Iowa; the daughter of Arthur and Catherine (Eich) Long.  On April 8, 1948 Mary was united in Marriage to Edmund P. Ford and in 1963, they moved to Iowa City.  Mary was a dedicated and hard worker; she had worked at several local businesses over the years.  She was an active Republican, a talented musician who loved to play the organ and sing, a dog lover and a very talented gardener who delighted in the spring blooms.

Her family includes her children, Jerry Ford (Bonnie) of Iowa City, Barbara Bok of North Liberty, Linda Mattingly (Phil) of Mesa, AZ and Dennis Ford (Ute) of Colorado Springs, CO; two grandchildren, Natalie Ford (James) and Chris Bok (who passed away in May of 2011), granddaughter-in-law (Chris’ wife), Karen; great-granddaughter, Everly; siblings, Helen Raasch of Texas, Joseph Long (Rita) of North Liberty and Alice Long of Chicago, IL as well as numerous step-grand and step-great-grandchildren.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Richard Long; grandson, Chris Bok; son-in-law, Paul Bok and brother-in-law, Harold Raasch.
