Obituary of Janice M. Mueller

Janice Marie Mueller, 73, formerly of Dubuque, passed away Monday February 26, 2018 with her family by her side at Windmill Manor in Coralville, Iowa.

Janice was born November 6, 1944 to Philip and Grace (Oakley) Maul in Dubuque, Iowa. She grew up and attended schools in Dubuque. She graduated from Dubuque Senior High (class of 1962). She was a long time member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Dubuque. Janice became a licensed beautician after graduating from high school and continued to work in various hair salons for the next 30 years, including Dolores Beauty Salon, the Shearing Station and Regis Salon. After leaving her profession as a hairdresser, she was employed by the Sisters of St. Francis in Dubuque as a housekeeper. She made many special friendships during her time at the “Sisters”. She loved to visit with some of her favorite resident sisters, go out for lunch and always remembered their birthdays with a special card or gift. Janice enjoyed decorating and was very talented and creative. She loved to design wreaths and flower arrangements. She also love to shop in thrift stores finding many treasures to display in her apartment or wear with flair. She was a incredible mother to her kids, Amy and Phil, many times putting their needs ahead of her own.

This last year of her life has been very difficult with many health problems, declining memory and physical abilities. Her children, Amy and Phil, would like to thank the nurses, aides and others at Windmill Manor for their care, help and kindness during the challenges of the past year.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents, Philip and Grace Maul. She is survived by daughter, Amy Koch and her husband Tom, Kalispell, MT; son Philip Maul, Iowa City, IA; and two grandsons, Sebastian Koch and Jordan Koch. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
