" I will always remember Tom and the fun we had together at lunch on Thursdays. He always had the funniest jokes and wit to share enhanced by his Irish roots. And... the stories about his service in the Marines was captivating. I especially enjoyed talking politics with him about issues we both agreed about. He is a great guy and friend and I will miss him. God Bless and hope the fond memories will help his family through this. "
May God give the family peace during their time of grief.
My heartfelt sympathy to Mike and the family. The loss of a parent is a life-changing event. As you know, Dena and I lost our mothers last week. I am sure your dad will be missed by many. Thinking of you during this time of sadness...Vicki
Tom was a great supporter of the Irish! He recruited County Johnson Irish to volunteer for Run for the Schools and encouraged us to be as Irish as we wanted. We had great conversations on the phone and I always enjoyed talking with him. I am very sorry for your loss and my thoughts are with you.
So many have missed see the "active" Tom around town for the last few years. I've though about him often as I regularly pass his former cottage on Muscatine St.
I appreciated that he seemed to always have a joke ready to share; even though sometimes they were repeats, and always not funny. But, they were a true reflection of Tom and his Irish heritage.
Rest peacefully family man, Marine, Rotarian, and friend to so many.
It is ironic that just today I was passing by his last Iowa City home and wondered how he was doing. Tom was a fellow founding member of the Downtown Iowa City Rotary Club and I considered him a dear friend. I would often stop by when I saw him outside his IC home, but lost touch when he moved. His stories were, for me, as interesting as they were numerous and his ability to draw them out of thin air at any encounter was an impressive skill. But most importantly, Tom was a friend to all he met. I know he will be missed by many.
Jim and family, we are so sorry to hear of the loss of your dad. He was quite the gentleman and we were happy to get to know him just a little bit. You certainly took good care of him! We will keep you all in our prayers as we will be out of town the dates of the services. Ed and Joyce
Dear Jim,
With sadness, we read of your father's death. We remember him well from our earliest days in Iowa City. He served us well with Northwestern Life Insurance dealings. And, of course, we've known you as our son Daniel's friend. Our deepest sympathies are with you and your family.
I am so sorry you lost your dad... we are never ready to say goodbye to our parents. Please know sweet Kathleen that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. My God’s grace and comfort be felt by all of you.
