Obituary of Donna Baldwin Davenport

Donna Baldwin Davenport, longtime resident of Iowa City went to be with her Lord and Savior, Wednesday, January 10, 2018.  She was 84.  She was born December 5, 1933 in Strawberry Point Iowa to parents Harry and Lillie (Gruver) Baldwin.

Her father was a bakery owner, well known for  his beautiful cakes and special baked goods. Her mother Lillie worked alongside Harry and after his passing went into nursing. Donna, worked as a crossing guard where her children went to school and was a sweet addition to all the children she helped get safely to school. She went on to work at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for well over forty years until retiring as a Tech II in the operating room .  But, the single most important "job" in her life was raising her 4 girls and being a friend to absolutely everyone she came in contact with.  She simply loved people. She was always the first to make a phone call, send a card, listen when you needed an ear, and she felt so blessed by the friendship of others. 

She is survived by her daughters.  Rayma Meyers (Cameron ) Donna Murphy ( Jeff )  Harriette Bell ( Jon ) Heather Wicks ( Brian ) and 5 grandchildren, Jamey ( Michelle )  Andrea ( Brian ) Cody,   Hawkeye,  Austin ( Molly ) and 3 great grandchildren. Samantha, Jordyn, and Brynlie. 

Donna was an incredible artist, who loved music, reading, and was hooked on movies, especially those that showed true romance, compassion, and emotions. Her family would like to extend a special thank you to those who were there for her so often. The people at Hy Vee who made sure she had whatever she needed, her neighbors the Elliots and Randy Hudachek who were always close by and all the many cousins and friends across the country who loved her as much as we do. 

Funeral services will be held at 10am Wednesday, January 17, 2018, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, before she is laid to rest alongside her parents at the beautiful Elgin Iowa cemetery at 3pm.  In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in her memory to the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital c/o University of Iowa Foundation.  To share a thought, memory or condolence please go to the funeral home website @ www.gayandciha.com.
