Edward R. "Fast Eddie" Alcock
1944 - 2017
Condolences
My condolences to the Alcock family on the passing of my dear cousin, Eddie.
I just found out about his passing the other from another cousin, Gene and Ginny Hinspeter, who lives in Florida.
My Mother, Margaret, was a sister to his Mother, Rose. I live in Delaware and did not see him often over the years. I did see Janet and him during one of their visits back east to New York. We talked about the "good old days" when we were younger and would come up to New York to visit his family.
Love to the family.
Janet I just got back in town and saw the paper, I was so sorry to hear about Ed. I just want you to know my thoughts are with you and will be thinking of you. Love, Rita
My sympathies and prayers are with you all. Ed was a good colleague whom we highly respected. Ed was wise and had a strong sense of fairness. He will be missed by many.
Janet,
I am so sorry for your loss, and sorry I missed the funeral. Ed was such a great guy, I know he will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

My condolences to the Alcock family members. May Ed rest in peace.
We all are indebted to Ed for his tireless work for the good of others.
We can look forward to being reunited with him on the other side.
Eddie was great to work with on many initiatives, including labor-management meetings, workplace safety, quality improvement, collective bargaining, contract negotiations, classification descriptions and the staff grievance process. Some of the greatest times, smiles and laughs, on (and off) campus occurred when Eddie was in the room. He looked a person right in the eye and respectfully said what was on his mind. From workers rights to workplace of choice, Eddie was always in the middle of it, and left our system much better. Best wishes and thoughts to Janet, family and friends of Ed. A great man left our midst.
Janet and family - my deepest condolences on the passing of Eddie. Peace be with you all.
I will always remember Eddie's strength and smile. He always had great union ideas. He will defiantly be missed and was loved by many!
My sincere condolences to Ed's family. I have many fond memories working around him at the University. He did a lot to advance peoples pay and benefits, negotiating contracts during his AFSCME presidency. He always had a joke or two to share and told things as he saw them. He will be missed.
I was in the pre vocation training for women when I met Ed we, road up and down on the top of an elevator. He also told me some
pretty amazing stories about being a cab driver in New York city. he was definitely one of kind and will be missed by all who knew him.
My prayers are with you all. I know it comes as a great loss, but the memories can never be erased.
I have my memories of Ed Alcock that go back many years. I loved to listen to his New York accent and his workplace stories. He was quite the character and gave me the nickname "Trouble". It was a joy to sit with Ed before, during, and after taking care of Union business. Alcock was so full of conversation and had a trunk of subjects he could cover.
I was just asking about Ed a couple of months ago. He will be truly missed by his old Union brothers and sisters.
Peace, be still.
I am so sorry for your loss. I have many fond memories of Ed. I served on many contract negotiations teams with him. He was a great man and will be missed by all who knew him. My prayers go out to all the family.
I will miss Ed. He was an awesome storyteller. He told me how he lost some of the fingers on his hand and how his Union brothers “covered” for him by doing their required work and then doing his workload for the many, many days so the boss wouldn’t fire him because he couldn’t get his work done after this life-impacting injury— brotherhood.
I am so saddened to learn of Ed's passing. He was such a close friend to me during our Union days at the U of I. Not only did he have the craziest and funniest stories, he always had my back, and I always put my ultimate trust in him. So many great memories. He always came across as a tough and gruff man, but he was a big teddy bear with a heart of gold and I loved him very much. My deepest sympathy to you, Janet, and to the rest of his family. He will be greatly missed. ❤️
