Obituary of Dale J. Seylar
Dale J Seylar, 60, of Coralville, passed away from a heart attack while riding his bicycle, Saturday, September 16, 2017.
Dale was born July 10, 1957, in Estherville, Iowa. He grew up in Estherville enjoying track and tennis. He attended Iowa Lakes Community College where he received an Associates of Arts degree before moving to Mason City, Iowa where he met his wife Jenny. They were married June 24, 1989 in Mason City, where they stayed until 2006 when they relocated to Coralville with their children, Andy, Callie, and Ethan. He worked for Principal Financial Group while in Mason City and continued to work for them from home after moving to Coralville.
Dale loved his family, enjoying parenting with Jenny and the family vacations each summer. He spent many hours in his wood shop making gifts for his family and church. He often made wooden Christmas gifts for his family who looked forward to receiving them every year. He also enjoyed running (he ran 3 marathons and 4 half marathons), biking, hiking, walking the dogs, and most important, spending time with his family. He was passionate about service, having spent numerous weeks in Mississippi and Louisiana doing disaster recovery work, and building projects for his church.
Dale’s family includes his wife, Rev. Jennifer Seylar; children, Andrew and his wife, Stephanie of North Liberty, Callie and Ethan of Coralville; granddaughter Emmalyn Martha; and brothers, David Seylar and Donald Seylar and his wife, Deb all of Estherville; niece and nephew Mary and Chris, and cousins.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Martha Seylar and step-mother, Darlene Seylar.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Friday, September 22nd at the Tipton First United Methodist Church in Tipton. Visitation will be Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at the Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City.
