Obituary of Adeline C. Stock
Adeline C. Stock, 96, of Iowa City, died Tuesday, September 5, 2017, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Monday, September 11, 2017, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Iowa City (Sunday Parking Ordinance will be in effect for streets near the church) Burial will be at the Lone Tree Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 pm Sunday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Memorial donations can be made in Adeline’s memory to the “Iowa City Catholic Worker House” to support a home environment for the disadvantaged in the Iowa City area. Adeline Christine Ullrich was born November 6, 1920, in Haskins, Iowa the daughter of Frank and Elizabeth (Manning) Ullrich. Her family moved to the Lone Tree area where she attended schools graduating from Lone Tree High School. She was united in marriage to Leland Stock on June 2, 1943 in Lone Tree. The couple farmed for over 38 years near Lone Tree before moving to Iowa City 37 years ago. Adeline has always enjoyed and was also very gifted in the business world that she wanted to work in addition to being on the farm and raising their family. In her youth she worked at a local garage and movie theater in Lone Tree. She later worked for many years in Iowa City working for Hartwig Motors, the Trust Department of Iowa State Bank, and Systems Unlimited and retiring after many years at the Means Agency always in the capacity of bookkeeper.
Adeline enjoyed a long fruitful life, much joy along the way. She was active in many church, social and business organizations over the years. She loved her gardens, sewing, dancing, playing cards, and mostly just being with her family and dear friends!
Her family includes her daughter and her husband, Adele Stock and Mark Chowen of Eden Prairie, MN; son-in-law, Don Klemp of Iowa City; granddaughters and their husbands, Deborah Kuiken and Kirk of Iowa City, and Amanda Bryan and Andy of Waukee, IA; grandson and his wife, Scott Klemp and Jessica Mehegan of Iowa City; great-grandchildren, Dylan Kuiken, Emma and Zach Bryan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Sherrie Klemp; sister, Gladys Rudman and her husband, Leon; and nephew, Bob Rudman.
