Obituary of Darlene J Hoskinson
Darlene J. Hoskinson, 85 of Iowa City, died Thursday, May 18. 2017, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, May 24, 2017, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service, with burial to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until services on Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Darlene’s memory. Darlene Joyce Cohenour was born December 1, 1931 in Iowa City, the daughter of Willis J. and Helen F. (Boss) Cohenour. She married Lloyd W. “Toddy” Hoskinson June 11, 1948 here in Iowa City, Toddy died in January of 1999. Darlene worked as “the administrative assistant” in the family business, Todd’s Construction for nearly forty years, she also worked for the Iowa City Community School District in Food Service for over 27 years at Mark Twain Elementary School.
Darlene had many passions in life, basically life itself! She was a member of the First United Methodist Church where she was active in the Choir, UMW and Chimes (founding member). She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary, REAC (past treasurer), Johnson County Genealogy, Retired Iowa City School Personal, and then of course her love of music. Darlene had played clarinet with the Senior Center Band since 1999, played with the Spring Band, Second Wind Quintet, Iowa City Community Band and the New Horizons Band.
Her family includes 3 daughters, Deanna Cornwell (Thom); Debra Courtney (Rod), and Doreen Hoskinson-Olsen; grandchildren, Meagan Richardson (Chad, Brad) Jessica McCullum (Jonathon), Todd Courtney (Megan),Jenny Olsen, Melissa Olsen and Samuel Olsen; great-grandchildren, Deanna Joy, Aurora, Lee, Levi, Dylan, Cale, Drew, Beau, Clayton, Rodney, Lillian, Nevaeh, Tehya, Genevieve, Autumn, Patience, Jonathan, and Akyrah; and granddaughter-in-law, Nicole Courtney.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, granddaughter, Shantele Cornwell; grandson, Chad Courtney; brothers, Keith and Clayton Dale Cohenour.
