Obituary of Jane Johnson
Jane Johnson, 89, of Iowa City, passed away on March 4, 2017. She was a resident at Oaknoll Retirement Community where she received excellent care for the past five years.
Jane was born in Lamoure, North Dakota to Dr. Joseph and Mrs. AdElla Winslow on May 11, 1927. She and her identical twin sister Jeanne were the youngest of eight children. Her parents, all 7 siblings and her late husband of 58 years, Dr. Wallace Johnson, predecease Jane.
Jane graduated from LaMoure High school in 1945 and earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics from North Dakota State University in 1949. Jane taught high school Home Ec in Oaks, North Dakota before marrying Dr. Wallace Johnson.
Jane and Wally moved to Iowa City in 1953 so that Wally could attend the University of Iowa College of Dentistry. They made Iowa City their home when Wally was offered a position on staff in 1958.
Jane was a mother, homemaker, gardener, active charter member of Saint Andrew Presbyterian Church, involved in PEO and many other woman’s clubs and organizations and worked for the University of Iowa registrar’s office. Family and friends remember Jane as a hardworking, creative, funny, spunky woman with an independent spirit, devoted to God, family and friends. Flowers, decorating, cooking and family heritage were just a few areas of interest.
Jane is survived by her four children, Rhonda Halvorsen of Iowa City, Dr. Keith
Johnson of Aberdeen, NC, Georgia Johnson of Lincoln, NE, and Dr. Ward Johnson of Snowmass Village, CO, ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Jane’s life will be celebrated in May with family and friends when she would have turned 90 years old. Her family requests no flowers or memorial donations at this time.
