Obituary of Joseph A. Rodgers

Joseph A. Rodgers, 68, of Iowa City, died Wednesday, March 6, 2013. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m., Saturday, March 9, 2013, at the Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City with burial to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Joseph Rodgers Memorial Fund. Joseph A. Rodgers was born March 8, 1944, in Iowa City; son of Edward U. and Eva M. (Holderness) Rodgers. He graduated from Iowa City High and went onto serve an enlistment in the U.S. Army. On December 20, 1969, he married Cheryle Tappan in Iowa City. They've lived in the Iowa City area for over 20 years, and Hills prior to that. Joe worked for almost 40 years for the University of Iowa, in Laundry Services and later the General Store, retiring in 2009. His family includes his wife, Cheryle; daughters, Kimberly (Mike) Westcott of Iowa City and Kathy (Bret) Fuller of West Branch; grandchildren, Sylvia and Scott Fuller and Nicholas, Hannah, Abagail and Matthew Westcott; and sisters, Mary Siems of Iowa City and Sandy (Larry) Maher of West Branch. Joe was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Lowell, Leo and Edward Jr.
