Obituary of Chevalier A. Monsanto
Chevalier A. "Monty" Monsanto, 90, of Coralville, died Friday, January 18, 2013.
Graveside memorial services with military honors will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 18, 2013 at the Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City. Online condolences may be sent for his family through the web @ www.gayandciha.com.
Chevalier Allan Monsanto was born October 14, 1922, in Brooklyn, NY the son of Chevelier Albert M. Monsanto and Emily Annabella (Wright) Monsanto. Following high school he entered college before enlisting in the United Navy during World War II. His military service involved time in the southwest Pacific where he took part in at least 5 island invasions, and later was called back into service during the Korean Conflict. He also served during the Vietnam conflict. After his World War II military service he moved to the Iowa City area where he had been employed with General Electric, Great Lakes Pipeline, and had retired from the Veterans Administration Hospital in 1986.
Monty had been married to Jean Rowbotham; Bertha Wagner and Patricia Ann "Pat" Parsons on July 26, 1976. He was a member of the Coralville American Legion, Iowa City Masonic Lodge, Kiwanis, and the Fleet Reserve Association. He served on the Johnson County Veterans Affairs board for many years. Monty was preceded in death by his parents, wives, Bertha Wagner Monsanto, Patricia A. Monsanto, sister, Lillian Dean, and his brother, Douglas Monsanto.
His family includes a brother-in-law and his wife, Reverend Thomas Parsons and JoEllen of Lake Luzerne, NY; step-children, Kimberly Yoo, Paul Sebesta (Jennifer) and Joseph Sebesta.
