Obituary of Marjorie R. Kidwell Cavanaugh

Marjorie R. Kidwell Cavanaugh, 96 of Cedar Rapids died Monday, January 14, 2013, at the Heritage Nursing and Rehab Center in Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm Thursday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. On Friday beginning at 2pm, family and friends can gather at the funeral home before they leave for services at the graveside at Memory Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in her memory to St. Luke's Hospice in Cedar Rapids. Online condolences may be sent for her family through the web @ www.gayandciha.com. Marjorie Ruth Odell was born June 21, 1916 in Brooks, Iowa, the daughter of Arthur and Grace (Ireland) Odell. She attended schools in Murray graduating from high school there in 1933. She married Franklin C. Kidwell on April 1, 1933. In addition to raising her family she assisted her husband in various business ventures over the years. Frank died in 1975, she later married Thomas Cavanaugh on April 26, 1980. Thomas died in 1988. A long life, a good life, and many memories by her family, but most dear were that she was the best "Granny" ever. Marjorie so loved her family, she was very proud of each and every one of them, and hearing Granny called from anyone of them was music to her ears. She will be missed by friends and family but will always be remembered as "Granny" to those that loved her dearly. Her family includes her son and his wife, Jim and Mona Kidwell of Atkins; daughter, Doris Al Noori of Rock Island, IL; two daughters-in-law, Judy Kidwell and Dorothy Kidwell both of Iowa City; grandchildren, Jan Kidwell of Iowa City, Kevin (Carol) Kidwell of Solon, Brent (Rose) Kidwell of Iowa City, Brian (Kelly) Kidwell of Denver, CO, Scott Kidwell of Bettendorf, Kelli (Mike) Waugh of Woodhull, IL, Marc Johnson of Iowa City, Dewayne Bennett of Davenport, Cathy (Tom) O'Brien of Shoreview, MN, and Carla (Paul) Van Buren of Phoenix, AZ; 29 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, son, Bill Kidwell; a great- great- grandson; and 11 brothers and sisters.
