To the Carpenter Family,
Sorry to hear of your loss! It is hard to lose someone near and dear to your heart. What I learned when my mom passed away July 23, 2008 is you take one day at a time, you live for the memories and it shows you support system.
You will be in my thoughts and prayers. If I can help in any way let me know.
Mary Ann Nida (Pfab)
Dear Sherry & family, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I have known you for years. Both from the Lone Tree and U-High connections. I wrote some place else that even though I was a wild woman, Bob never had to personally arrest me. I remember your Mom and Dad from the early days down on the Sand road, as they were friends and neighbors of my Mom & Dad.
Every time I have ever ran into you around town you always remembered me and greeted me with a friendly "How are you". I appreciated that.
May the Lord be with you and your family and huge web of friends.
PEACE & SERENITY-----GAYLE J. NELSON
My deepest condolences to all of the Carpenter family. My thoughts and prayers are with you guys. God bless.

To the Family of Bob Carpenter and the Johnson County Sherriff'sDepartment Bob will be greatly missed by all that knew him. I will always remember his smile. He will always be with us in our hearts, memories, spirits, and thoughts. When you feel his presence know that you were thinking about each other at the same time, they say you should say a prayer for him and you and that will help in the days ahead. I worked with him when I worked at the Jail and When I would see him at Mercy Hospital . He would always speak to me and that is a memory I will have of him. May God Bless all of you and keep you in his care.
Terri Lee (Mellecker) Doehrmann
Sherry, I'm very sorry for your loss. Bob was a good man and both skilled and dedicated in his service to public safety.
Condolences to Bob's family. I have many fond memories of serving with Bob on the Johnson County Emergency Managment Board. He was a pleasure to work with, made us all feel welcome and always knew how to make us all laugh at the simple things in life.

You have our deepest sympathy. Bob was a very good person and the citizens of Johnson County have alot to be thankful for because of him.
Barbara and I wish to extend our sympathy to you and your family. Bob was always willing to extend a helping hand and a kind word, as he did for me when I worked with him at the JCSO in the late 70's. His great sense of humor will be missed.
Sherry & Family, You have my sympathy on Bob's loss. He was a great man and did very fine things for the community. He and his co-workers were always welcome at Mom & Dad's table for a cup or two of Coffee and good conversation. I learned a great deal from Bob and I know he will be missed.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to your family, from the Dickens family.
My deepest condolences go out to the Carpenter family. Bob always seemed to be in great spirits regardless of how he was feeling. He had great love for his family, friends, and community and we for him. I will miss his infectious smile, especially at our 4thFest events. We are truly blessed for having had him in our lives.
Carpenter Family, we were so sorry to read of Bob's passing. While on the North Liberty Fire Department Tom always enjoyed working with Bob, and learned much from him. Our communities will miss him dearly. Know that you are all in our thoughts and prayers.

Bill and Carolyn Barnes
Our Condolencxes to Sherry and the family. His service to the community and fellow mankind is a lasting tribute of his life. Blessings to you all.
I will personally miss Bob!
He not only advised me as a co-worker, but he as well mentored me as a person like a father would have.
He would always have some silly comment or tough truth to say to me.
Before knowing that Bob was a former sheriff, I didn't have a lot of respect for authority, He was one of the few whom I will have a lot of respect for, for a very, very long time!!!
I want to thank Bob for being who he was......himself!!!
THANK YOU MR. CARPENTER!!!!!!
Sherry and family.
You have our sympathy. Will always remember Bob at the Beef Days tractor pulls. And his smile.
Our sympathy goes out to your family at this time with the loss of Bob.
Renda and Family,
Our sympathy goes to you and your entire family. May you find comfort in the memories of your father.
Bob was a tremendous public servant and a well respected Law Enforcement Officer. We will all miss Bob for his contributions to the community. Our sincere sympathy to the Carpenter Family
Sherry and family
Most of us in Law Enforcement really want only one thing to be said about us on our tombstone: "He was a good cop". Bob was a "good cop" and a good friend. I will miss you my friend.
RENEE AND FAMILY THINKING OF YOU AT THIS TIME. ARE THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS GO OUT TO YOU. I REMEMBER 18 YEARS AGO WHEN MY DAD PASSED AWAY YOUR DAD WAS THE FIRST TO MEET ME AT MERCY HOSPITIL.
Shocked and saddened by the loss of Mr. Carpenter. I have known the Carpenter's my entire life, my thoughts and prayers are with his wonderful wife Sherry, his children, and grandchildren, he will be missed!
Earth has no sorrow that heaven can not heal
There is love and strength in family
Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal.
It's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years.
There is only one happiness in life -- to love and to be loved.
Heaven is a place nearby"
Where there is love there is life.
No three words have greater power than I Love You.
To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die
Let the memories survive
Those we love don't go away, they live in our hearts every day."
The soul is eternal - love is immortal.
Like a rainbow, gone too soon, but never forgotten
I want the Carpenter family to know that Bob will always be in my thoughts and prayers. He was a great man that raised a great family! He will be missed.
Sherry and family,
All of Johnson County shares your loss, but Coralville especially loses a friend and leader. Christmas lights in the winter, and the 4th of July parade in the summer, will both be times when Bob's remembered with a smile and a thought for you. Thank you for sharing him with all of us.
I would like to extend my condolences to Sherry, Renee, Rochelle, Renda, Ryan and all their families. I'm very sorry for your loss. After reading that he had passed a flood of memories keep flying threw my head and I didn't realize how much he impacted my life. I remember him as Mr. Carpenter when I was riding around the streets of Coralville on my bike, when I got involved with the Sheriff Explorer Post 521 at age 14 it was Lieutenant Carpenter, Captain Carpenter than Sheriff Carpenter. He took his Law enforcement seriously but still took the time to be the Advisor of young adults who were interested in Law Enforcement. In the 6 years I was there he helped MANY of us find our path into Law Enforcement or figure out it was not the way to go. He not only was a dad to his four children he sometimes acted as a father figure to us, he helped straighten some out, listened to our problems, gave advice, and butt chewing's when necessary. I saw him a few years ago at the Coralville 4H of July party in the park I said HI .. He looked at me trying to figure out what to call him and he said Tammie just call me Bob.
I am so sorry for your loss. I know that my parents are there with you in spirit. Sherry was always a good to my mom and she always mentioned when she saw you. Please know that you all are in my prayers.
Sherry, Renee, Rochelle, Renda, Ryan and Family,
Thoughts and prayers, go out to Bobs Family, I will THANK HIM ONE MORE TIME FOR SAVING MY LIFE, WE HAVE COME ALONG WAY SINCE THE 70'S, THANKS FOR WATCHING OUT FOR ALL THE CHILDREN YOU DID, AND TEACHING US TO BE THE PEOPLE WE ARE TODAY, MAY HE REST IN PEACE, THE TERRI PARRIS FAMILY..
Sherry
Sad when those who are so pleasant and kind leave us. I'm sure, like everyone else, he had his days but I don't think I ever saw Bob without a smile on his face. My mother enjoyed all of the years she worked for the Sheriffs office, and everyone she worked with, but probably none more than Bob. So liked by his collegues and loved by his friends and family, his loss will be greatly felt. My Condolences to your family

My deepest sympathy to you and all your family. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
Renda and Family,
The memories and stories of your Dad that people will share with you in the coming days will become treasures that you will keep forever.
We will be keeping you and your entire family in our thoughts and prayers.

I have many wonderful memories or working with Bob in emergency situations in the 70's. He will be missed, but will continue to be with us in our memories. I have submitted two photo's I had in my album for you to see how dedicated he really was to his job at the Sheriff's Office and the citizens of Johnson County.
Was so sorry to hear about Bob passing. I remember Bob very much as being so pleasant to be around. He will be missed and being this time of the year just makes it harder. My thoughts to the family. God must of had a plan for Bob.
I was shocked to hear of Bob's death. He was the sheriff when my daughter was in Sheriff's Explorers. She wanted to be a State Trooper like Allen Nieland (now deceased) who was from our church (Our Redeemer Lutheran in IC). My daughter, Gretchen Daniels, loved going to Explorers and we were sad when the program was cancelled.
Sheriff Carpenter also was the one who kindly told me my brother had been killed in an auto accident. I had such respect for him that it made it easier to hear the news.
My daughter and I send you our deepest sympathies.
So sorry for your loss Sherry, my deepest sympathy to you and all your family. What a loss to the whole community.
So young ! ! Sad times for your family. You'll look back on memories you'll forget you had, and at times you'll smile even though it hurts.
So sorry to hear of Bob's passing. We have known Bob for many, many years. He lived next to me when were in school and he drove my school bus when I was still in high school in Lone Tree. Bob was a friend to everyone and always very pleasant and kind to all the kids on the bus. I know he will be greatly missed by everyone in this community. You will all be in our prayers and thoughts.
I did not have the pleasure of meeting Robert however it is blindingly apparent Ryan had received great guidance from him throughout his life. Men receive character template from their fathers, knowing Ryan as I do now I have to believe Robert was an outstanding example for his son. Your entire family will be in our prayers.
Ron and I were so sorry to hear of Bob's passing. Mother and I flew to Arizona on Halloween and will be here until sometime in April. Kim called last night with the sad news. If there is anything we can do from here, let us know. Bob was a wonderful man.
Ron and Carol Stiers

I knew Bob's parents from the many dances we attended. The Kneeknockers met yesterday a group Sherry I believe started and shared her sorrow. I last saw him as he was putting up those Christmas decorations in his yard. Sherry was so compassionate when I lost my husband and now ... Condolences for your family.

Dear Rochelle and family,
Knowing how tender-hearted, kind, and caring you are, we know this is very difficult. Please know that we continue to hold you and your family in our hearts and prayers and, especially, pray that the Lord keeps you all close during this time so that, amidst the grief and longing, you are comforted and granted peace. May there be many blessings as you and family and friends reminisce about his amazing life during this time of togetherness.
Hugs,
Mary Lou
I would like to extend my condolences to Sherry, Renee, Rochelle, Renda, and Ryan. I'm very sorry for your loss and I wish we could be there to help comfort you in your time of need. I have many fond childhood memories of your Dad and your family. In addition, your Dad was very important to my Dad, as they were not only friends but were each other's best man in their weddings. As I type this I can hear your Dad's unique voice and laugh as if we were having a friendly conversation. As I've grown older and moved away, I didn't see you Dad very much, but when I did, he was always so friendly and eager to catch up. Your Dad was a dignified public servant and the people of Johnson County were lucky to have him protect and serve them for so many years. I will be thinking about you and your Dad and I will be smiling having been better for knowing him!
Steven L. Forbes
My heart goes out to family and friends of Bob Carpenter. Although I never had the pleasure of knowing him, I know his daughters... and my heart breaks for them. It's obvious that he taught Renda and Rochelle so many great life lessons because both girls are beautiful both inside and out. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Carpenter family and friends during this difficult time. May God watch over you and comfort you. --Kathy Beck
