Obituary of Charles Lee McLean
Charles L. McLean, 86 a lifelong resident of the Iowa City/Lone Tree areas died Tuesday, October 2, 2012, at the Lone Tree Health Care Center.
Honoring Charles's wishes, he has become a donor to the University of Iowa for medical research. Memorial services will be held at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 9, 2012, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, where a period of visitation will be one hour prior to the services and also following the services. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in Charles's memory to the Jason Jenks Benefit or Pioneer Village of Lone Tree. Charles Lee McLean, the son of Wilbur and Margaret McLean, was born August 3, 1926, in Iowa City, Iowa. He graduated from Lone Tree High School in 1945 and attended Iowa State University. He was united in marriage to Frances May Lenz on November 14, 1954 in Lone Tree. He was employed as a printer, retiring in 1988. He was a volunteer for the Lone Tree Fire Department and served as chief for several years. Charles was a giving man who enjoyed delivering Meals on Wheels, assisting neighbors and family in numerous projects, and even helping out the stranded stranger in a snow storm. He loved being a dad and grandfather and was always available to his family to support them in all their activities. He had a passion for music which he shared with all of his family, forming a very special and unforgettable bond.
His family includes his wife of almost 58 years, Frances; their two daughters - Wendy (Robert) Pusey of Wayland, Iowa, Teresa (Dennis) Lukaszewicz of Cedar Rapids, grandchildren; Nathan (Krystal), James (Audrey) and Kathryn Pusey, Tim (Bekki) Johnson, Shannon (Charlie) Franck, Jodi (Terry) Ballard, Cori Lukaszewicz, and Amanda Cooper. He is also survived by twelve great-grandchildren and has two on the way in November.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and one sister.
