Obituary of Wilma Katherine Pirkl
Wilma K. Pirkl, 103, of Iowa City, died Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at Windmill Manor in Coralville.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Friday, July 28, 2012, at the Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City with burial following at Memory Gardens Cemetery. A time of visitation will be held Friday prior to the services from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Memorial contributions may be sent in her name to Hospice Compassus. Wilma Katherine Cole was born April 18, 1909, near the family farm which was across the fence from West High School in Iowa City. Her parents were George H. and Annie R. Cole. She attended country school and later went onto St. Mary's High School. On June 15, 1933, Wilma married Floyd Pirkl in Iowa City. Wilma and Floyd celebrated their 50th Anniversary in 1983 and Floyd passed away a few years later on, March 26, 1986. For more than 70 years, Wilma and Floyd farmed her family farm on the west side of Iowa City. She was a member of the Johnson County Farm Bureau. Wilma enjoyed animals, tame and wild; gardening, fishing and horseback riding in her younger years.
Her family includes her sons, Donald (Patricia) and Keith (Barbara) Pirkl all of Tiffin; five grandchildren, Christine Land (Clayton), David (Crystal), Gary, Kevin and Edward Pirkl, and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, an infant granddaughter, Connie Sue, and granddaughter-in-law, Leslie Pirkl.
