I was so sorry to see of Walt's passing, but am glad he is no longer in pain. He was a brave man and a compassionate, loyal friend as well. We had fun being birthday buddies since we were both born February 9th. Our days spent together at Hope United Methodist Church will always be fond memories for me. God bless you Mary Lou and all your family with His peace, comfort and love. I will keep you in my prayers.

Friends, after the immediate sadness of reading of Walt's passing, smiles came on our faces as we remembered what a good natured guy Walt was and how he loved to laugh. We pleasantly remember him as a loyal and helpful church member who was always pleasant to be around. He had many friends because he was a friend.

We remember with affection the Johansen family. We enjoyed having Walt and Mary Lou in our class. Rich and Walt built a "Joash Chest" one year. Each year during the pledge drive, that wooden chest is brought down from the church attic, and we always remember Walt. Our sympathy goes out to Mary Lou and the whole family.

I read of Walt's passing today in the Champaign-Urbana News-Gazette, and wish to give you my sincere condolences. Walt was a wonderful man, always with a smile, and a good engineer too. I didn't know he was a Californian for a while, but I believe Iowa was his true love. Daily and Associates Engineers merged with Foth Infrastructure and Invironment in 2005 when I retired, and is still going strong. Again, our thoughts, sympathies,and prayers are with you at this time. Walt's passing marks the end of an era for me.

Walt was a kind, gentle and wonderful man and he will be and has been dearly missed by those of us at Hope. Rodger and I love you both and your love for each other, even when your opinions differed, was something we strive to perfect with your example. I always looked forward to my Walt hugs on Sunday mornings. Walt was good at saving spirits, my favorite memory was very early in my attendance at Hope. I was entering a very deep depression about my daughter and first child moving out of our home to go to college and asked for prayers, Walt leaned over and simply whispered, "don't worry, they always seem to come back". That simple statement made my day and transitioned me to a place where I could survive the transition. Truly God used him in many peoples' lives. God Bless his spirit!

Walter was a joy to take care while here at Silvercrest. He always appreciated when you did things for him. He was pleasant to talk too. He would sit out in the lobby doing his puzzle books or stop by the nurse office just to talk to see how my day was going. It was a blesing knowing Walter. My thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time. He will be missed.
