Obituary of Glenn W. Treiber
Glenn W. Treiber, 85, of Iowa City, died Saturday, December 31, 2011 at Mercy Hospice in Iowa City with his wife at his side.
Funeral services will be 10:30 Wednesday, January 4, 2012, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Iowa City. Burial with military honors will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 3 from 4-7 p.m. at the Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Memorials in Glenn's name can be made to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Iowa City Hospice or the Iowa Lions Eye Bank.
Glenn William Treiber was born January 30, 1926 in Hawarden, Iowa; son of William Treiber and Martha Renken. On January 15, 1944, he married Adeline Dommer in Craig, Iowa. Shortly after their marriage, Glenn served state-side in the U.S. Army during WWII as a guard at Ft. Leavenworth in Kansas. In 1964 Glenn and Adeline moved to Iowa City, where they've resided since. Glenn worked for Hawkeye Wholesale Grocery until his retirement in 1985, serving in many capacities; from truck driver to sales to meat broker. Glenn was a long-time member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Iowa City and the Iowa City American Legion Post 17.
Glenn was always going; he enjoyed golfing, fishing and in his younger years was an avid hunter. He loved wood working and could often be found in his shop or watching a game of his beloved Cub's on TV.
His family includes his wife of 67 years, Adeline; daughters, Sharon (Larry) Molzen of Hinton, IA and Patricia Treiber of Cedar Rapids, IA; sons, Richard Treiber of Iowa City, IA, Daniel (Sally) Treiber of Marion, IA and Charles Treiber of Scottsdale, AZ; as well as 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Glenn was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Eileen Webster and Blanche Kass.
