I was 17 and a Jr. in High School, wanting to learn how to make Kolaches for my Dad. I called Aunt Betty, she was pleased that I had asked her and was ready to tell me what to do.
I went out to the house a couple of days before Thanksgiving and spent the whole day with her. She didn't have a receipe, I was trying to write one as we went..... she would say " about a cup or so, a smidge of salt, bake them until they are done, " I think I called her once a year for the first 5 years with Kolache questions. I've never made a batch of Kolahes with out thinking about Aunt Betty and our day on the Farm baking.
My Father is happy I have been making him Kolaches for him for 34 years!
I have modernised Aunt Betty's Kolaches by using a bread maker for the dough.
I would be happy to share this receipe to anyone intrested.
