I worked a bit with Char on fellowship matters in the 80s and 90s at UIHC. She was always smiling and pleasant. I often saw her and PJ in the halls. She will be so missed.

In memory of Char a donation was sent to St. Jude Hospital for all of their good care of children with cancer.

Char and I worked together in Cardiothoracic Surgery for nearly 20 years. She was gracious in helping a new and overwhelmed employee, like myself, as well as in assisting the steady stream of residents, fellows, and medical students who passed through the department. Her commitment and dedication to the department and University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics was unsurpassed. My wife, Nita, and I always enjoyed socializing with Char and PJ at the yearly Christmas party and other departmental functions. She was one of a kind, and will be missed.

I worked with Char for many years in Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery and also in Peripheral Vascular Surgery. She was a very knowledgeabe in our division'.s history.

We shared many wonderful memories and worked with many wonderful faculty and trainees during our years at UIHC. They were all apart of our UIHC family.

We all indulged in tales of Char and PJ's Chicago road trips.

After retirement,a gang of ' ole ' CT/Surgery would meet at restaurants and reminisce over old times and wonderful friends. Char and PJ would join us.

Char will be missed at our gatherings and by her many friends and family.

I never saw Char without PJ outside of work. We used to see them shopping together somewhere almost on a monthly basis. She will be missed.

It is with much sadness that we were informed of the passing of one our own from the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery here at the University. Char was a fixture along with PJ in the Department for many years working with First Dr. Ehrenhaft , then Doug Behrendt and finally for myself and the Department. She was tireless representative of the Department and a shining example of dedication for the University.

Her warmth, love for family, her dignity & courage, as she faced death, will always be remembered. The love, care and lifelong friendship of her best friend, Phyllis Jones, will always be greatly appreciated and admired by all of us.

A true lady of grace and charm. A beloved family member. Gave us all her remarkable daughter Julia.
