Obituary of Donald D. Schropp

Donald Schropp, 88, of rural Oxford, died Saturday, October 22, 2011, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, October 27, 2011, at the Oxford United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be at the Oxford Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Don's name to Iowa City Hospice. Online condolences may be sent to Don's family through the web @www.gayandciha.com. Donald Dean Schropp was born May 9, 1923, on a farm outside of Oxford. His parents were Isaac and Mary (DeGood) Schropp. Don attended school in Oxford and remained in the area his entire life. On March 25, 1946, he married Betty Hummer in Marengo. The coupled lived, farmed and raised a family together until Betty's death in January of 2007. Don knew farming and knew it well. He loved his horses and time spent outside; hunting coons, fishing or horseback riding with his grandkids. There was nothing more important to Don than his family, he adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved spending time with them! His family includes his children, Jerry Schropp of New London and Bonnie (Vern) Koenighain of Oxford; grandchildren, Mike (Stacey Herdliska) Koenighain, Chad (Stacy) Koenighain, Alexander Schropp, April (Danny) Cornell and Corina Schropp; 10 great-grandchildren; half-brother, Mike Schropp and half-sister, Lori. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; parents; brothers, Russell and Kenneth Schropp and half-sister, Lucille McCoy.
