Obituary of Edna V. Ruppert Heitzman

Edna V. Ruppert Heitzman, 98 of Iowa City died Thursday, October 13, 2011, at the Iowa City Health and Rehab Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 18, 2011, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service, where visitation will be one hour prior to the services. Burial will be at the Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City. Memorial donations can be made to the charity of choice from the donor. Watkinson was born February 13, 1913, in rural Johnson County the daughter of Ovie O. and Elizabeth (Slaughter) Watkinson. She was united in marriage to Woodrow H. Ruppert on August 21, 1933. The couple lived many years in Forest Lake, MN. Mr. Ruppert passed away on October 28, 1967. She later married Paul Heitzman on July 3, 1976. Paul died on March 28, 2002. Edna worked as a bookkeeper and payroll clerk at Aldens Department Store for many years. She also was an ambulance escort for the University of Iowa Hospital for many years. Her family includes two step-sons; Dick Heitzman (Becky) and Beill Heitzman (Deb) all of Hills; 7 step-grandchildren, 9 step-great-grandchildren; brothers Walter Watkinson (Dorothy) of Riverside; and Evan Watkinson (Norma) of West Branch; sister, Shirley King (Ron) of Iowa City; sister-in-law, Naomi Watkinson of Council Bluffs. She was preceded in death by husbands, step-son, Thomas Heitzman; step-daughter and her husband, Marge and Dennis (Pinky) Hamilton; step-daughter-in-law, Nancy Heitzman; brother, Pearl O. Watkinson, and two sisters, Alice Gerot Matthes; and Mary Gerot.
