Dear Cousins,

I am so sorry that I missed your Father's funeral. It was several days after the funeral that I learned that Uncle Leo had passed away. Our thoughts and prayers are with your familes.

There were times that our daughter Mary was hospitalized at the University Hospital , or we would drive down for office visits & we would stop and have a lovely visit with your parents. Aunt Dorothy would show us what she was working on and Uncle Leo would love to talk about sports or current events.

In the last 10 years or so, Uncle Leo would call around Christmas. We always looked forward to his call. He was still up on all the lastest news .

You were blessed with wonderful parents !

Dave and Steve, I am saddened to learn just today that Leo has died. I share a little in your grief because we just buried my last family member, an older brother. But reading the obituary brought back many good memories of the AHS outstanding Neppl brother athletes. Coach Christie

Know that we care and that Leo will always be remembered as a wonderful man. We definitely will miss that special phone call that we got each year wishing us a Merry Christmas! He always said, "Merry Christmas, this is your Uncle Leo."

Jerome and I always enjoyed going to Iowa City to see our daughters ( Lori and Ann). And when we had time, visit Uncle Leo. He always had a smile on his face and a story to tell when we would visit him. He truly loved his wife and children very much. Last Fall at about 9 PM one night he called me to ask how the crops were doing. How many bushel per acre and what the moisture was. Good thing I know the answer to his questions, or he would have been very disappointed. He loved talking farming and so did Jerome, so we always had a great time together. He will be greatly missed by us. He will always remain in our hearts. God bless you Uncle Leo. Rest in Peace.

To his children; you have our sympathy. Sorry I can't make it to the service, I'm in KC with my Daughter and family. She is having a baby any day now, so am down here helping out. You all our in my prayers. Love Dolores and Jerome

I enjoyed baking cookies and other desserts (mostly during my undergrad time at U of I) and bringing some over to Leo because he seemed so genuinely appreciative. He always asked about how the farming in Western Iowa was going. My husband was blown away at Leo's impressive memory for baseball statistics and players. When Leo found out my husband was from Manning, IA, he asked him if he remembered the pitcher from Manning's 1938 baseball team. (Sadly, he did not.) My sister Lori was visiting Iowa City in early August this year and we were fortunate enough to talk to Leo after mass at St. Pat's. He gave me a good hug--like always.
