Obituary of Richard Scott Barker
Richard Scott Barker, 68, of Cape Coral FL, died May 18, 2011 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City. Born in Long Beach, CA to Phyllis Clausen Barker and Charles A. Barker, he was raised in Iowa City and graduated in 1961 from University High School. He attended Lawrence University and received his BA from the University of Iowa in 1965, followed by a JD from the University of Michigan in 1968. Upon graduation, he joined the Army and served as a Captain in the JAG Corps, assigned to the 82nd airborne division based at Ft. Bragg, NC. Following his return to Iowa City in 1972, he began practicing law and continued until 1988 when he moved to Ft. Myers, FL, where he served as Lee County’s first hearing examiner and continued in private practice.
He is survived by his parents; siblings Steven, Barbara and Julianne; daughters, Amy and Allison; and grandchildren, Hadley and Nathan.
A family memorial service will be held at a later date.
