You may not remember who I am, but I am the secretary for the Dentons at their foundry in Brandon and have met your family a time or two.

Your fathers smile and laugh is what comes to mind, and a cheerful attitude.

I was so bummed that Jay has moved on...he was the guy I liked to visit as he lived across from my parent's house. He was always fixing the place up-new windows, a fence, hose for the water to drain correctly. There was so, so much to still learn from him-I love woodwork, fixing things up and just chatting with people...I will miss him not being there and hearing about the latest project or showing me how he built something. Or his next idea after this one...I did ask my parents once if I could move back so I could hang around Jay-(I am 46) they were not too keen on my moving back. I should have asked Jay-all that knowledge and skill-life experiences-all precious resources that I will truly miss..and now I am crying again...love ya Jay.

I am saddened by news of Jay's passing. I know he will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends. I'm remembering many great times that the four of us had as couples, and doing craft shows. A longtime friend. Florence Brink

I'm so sorry to hear of Jay's passing. Years ago I visited Jay & Gen at their home north of Iowa City. Gen's mother and my mother were sisters.

Jay gave me a tour of their extremely well kept workshop. I marveled at the craftsmanship of their work.

For whatever reason, we didn't stay in touch over the years. I wasn't aware of Gen's passing & feel guilty that we all didn't stay in touch.

Ann & Mike, you have my sympathy over your loss. I see you still live in Brandon; do you still have the foundry? I would love to come visit you some time because I haven't seen the both of you in a long time

My lasting memory of Jay is his smile; I never saw anyone smile so much or who was so friendly!

I won't be able to attend the funeral as I will be out of town on the job (unfortunately not retired yet) and am unable to cancel. In lieu of flowers I would like to make a donation to a charitable cause that Gen & Jay may have liked. Please let me know which one.

Jay and I, two of the twelve grandchildren of William and Margaret Petro, enjoyed spending time together at family reunions in Benton County, Iowa, during the 1930s. We had limited contact during our young adult years, but reconnected during the late 1950's, when I was in graduate school at the University of Iowa. We have kept in regular contact ever since, relishing every opportunity we could get to share stories, past and present, with each other. Jay was one very special person who loved his wife and family dearly and treated all of his friends and acquaintances with deep respect. His greatest goal was to make the world a better place. He has finished his earthly journey and may now rest in peace, for he did, indeed, leave the world a better place.

We always enjoyed eating at the Center with them on Sunday. They lived close to my sister Betty Sedlacek on Praire du chien Rd. My Mom knew the . Buess from Texas. He was always sopleasant and smiling . I know he missed Gen terribly. Our condolences to the family
