I had the privilege of knowing Mary while she resided at San Simeon by the Sound. I thoroughly enjoyed her beautiful smile and sense of humor. She was a real lady but no nonsense at the same time and carried herself with absolute dignity, manifest (on the surface) by her beautiful hats!!!

I was deeply saddened when we lost her but am very grateful for having known her.

I send my love and condolences to her family, as does my husband, Bennett.

Mother (Ruth Rodgers) considered Mary to be one of her best friends. I took mother to pick up Mary at Melrose Meadows several times to all go have lunch together. My sons Roger and Lore Swartzendruber always thought Mary was such a 'classy' lady and they loved the hats. They were elementary school age or younger. But they always knew who mother was talking about -- the lady with the pretty hats. Mary was bright, interesting, and always interested in others. She was especially proud of her two sons. Mother knew one of you better because you worked together if I recall correctly. May you hold your precious memories of her dearly. God bless, Elnora and Stan Smith

Mary was in Iowa City Womans Club for years and years. She held many offices. She always wore a hat yes! She even had us attend her church for one of our meetings. She loved to entertain and did it with style. Told of NY many times. She told a joke or not sure maybe she said Lee said it, but something about people in NY City, either quick of dead something aboutt crossing the street.. ? oh well funny at the time. Our condolences to Amy on loss of her Aunt.
