Obituary of Norma Jean White

Norma Jean White, 78 of Iowa City died Sunday, November 28, 2010, at her residence. Following Norma's wishes, private family committal services will be held. Norma Jean White was born September 8, 1932 in Iowa City, the daughter of Judge Walter Smith and Martha Westfall Smith. She graduated from Iowa City High School in 1951. She married John C. White November 14, 1952 at St. Wenceslaus Church in Iowa City. Norma was employed at the University of Iowa Hospital for many years, retiring from the Patient Transportation Office. She is survived by her daughter, Christine McPherren (Matthew) and their son, Eric and Dan McPherren and Ryan White and his children, Andre and Amerie; daughter, Laura Thompson (Larry) and their children, Joseph, Christopher, Janet (Chris), and Daniel; son, John White (Carmen); son, Kevin White (Barbara) and their children, Jesse, Lindsey (Boone) and their daughters, Olivia and Ophelia; Neil White (Anna); sisters-in-law, Lorna and Isabelle Smith and many nieces and nephews. Norma was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and step-father, Eldo Peterman; brothers, Calvin, Judge, Charles, and Kenneth Smith; sister, Ila Hill and her husband Leonard; sisters-in-law, Mary and June Smith and Mary Claire Palmer.
