Betty Bernice Klumforth was born September 17, 1920, in Iowa City, the daughter of Charles and Agnes (Teller) Klumforth. She lived all her life in Iowa City, attending public schools here. She was a member of First Baptist Church and Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary. Betty married Freddy G. Funk on December 11, 1937, at the First Baptist Student Center in Iowa City. Freddy was killed in action during World War II on December 1, 1944. Betty later married Ronald G. McNabb on March 3, 1947.
Betty enjoyed growing many different types of flowers in her yard and had a green thumb that was envied by many. She loved sitting quietly, listening and watching the many birds that fed at her feeders. Another favorite pastime was dancing and sharing time with friends at the Eagles. Betty loved her iced coffees and on most Sundays, she could be found at Panera Bread with special friends and family. Ending her day in tradition with Kentucky Fried Chicken! Betty loved life and loved her family. All enjoyed her unique wit and vibrant “tell like it is” personality. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her.
Her family includes her four children, Barbara (Dallis) Meier of Iowa City, Betty Lee (Robert) Welsh-Fisher of Irvine, California, Ronald C. McNabb of Iowa City, and Judith (Mark) Standard of Silver City, New Mexico; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Susan) Meier, Julie (Jim) Connell, Dean (Barb) Meier, Elizabeth (Joe) Finnegan, Paul (Candy) Welsh, Megan (Bobby) Dion, Joseph McNabb, Tami Weil, Jennifer (Joe) Vance, Amy (Ken) Harding and Rebecca (Johnny) Seacrest; 27 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren, her sister, Ada (Larry) Svatos, two nieces, Deb and Cheryl; and Mary McNabb a special family friend.
