Obituary of M. Marie Drewelow
M. Marie Drewelow, 105 formerly of Iowa City, died Saturday, November 7, 2008, in Naples, Florida. Private family services will be held for Marie, with burial at Memory Gardens. Online condolences may be sent for her family through the web @www.gayandciha.com. Myrtle Marie Drewelow was born January 25, 1903, in Oasis, Iowa the daughter of William and Grace (Morford) Loan. She grew up in Iowa City, family moved to North Dakota when she was young, where she attended a country school. Returning to Iowa, she completed high school in Iowa City. Marie worked at the Iowa City Power and Light Company until she started her own business, a collection agency. Selling her business in 1942, she moved to Des Moines to attend the American Institute of Business. She worked part-time as a clerk for the State Legislature. Following graduation from AIB, she and her son, Harry returned to Iowa City where she began a career as a court reporter that spanned many years. Over the years, Marie was a member of St. Marks United Methodist Church, Bethlehem Shrine, Masonic Temple, Eureka Lodge, Rebecca Lodge, and I.O.O.F., in Iowa City. Her family includes her son, Harry W. (Frances) Jacobs of Naples, FL; grandson, David K. (Adrian) Jacobs of Charlotte, N.C.; great-grandson, Matthew D. Jacobs; great-granddaughter, Katherine Jacobs; youngest brother, Ellis E. Loan of Nevada, IA; and several loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of over 33 years, Wellington A. Drewelow; her parents, brothers, William, Charles, Hazen, and Roy Loan; sisters, Ethel Garrison, and Edna Bowie.
