Obituary of Leo M. Baker
Leo Micajah Baker, 83, of Cedar Falls, died surrounded by his family on September 11, 2008 at University of Iowa hospitals after suffering a stroke. He was a resident of Waterloo for many years and recently moved back from Sun City, Arizona. Leo was born April 28, 1925 in Muscatine, Iowa to Joseph and Nellore (Lee) Baker and raised by Cynthia (Wagner) Lee. He married Ann Phillips on June 26, 1949 in Muscatine, Iowa. Leo graduated from Muscatine High School and graduated with honors from the University of Iowa. He received his juris doctorate degree from the University of Iowa Law School in 1952. Leo served in the Army during WWII. He was a practicing attorney for a number of years in Cedar Falls. One of his favorite clients was UNI. He later was employed by General Growth Properties. He was actively involved in numerous civic and community organizations. He was very active in the Faith Presbyterian Church in Sun City, Arizona. He is survived by his wife, Ann, three sons (spouses): David L. Baker (Janet), Cedar Rapids, Jeffrey P. Baker (Jackie), Pewaukee, Wisconsin, and Scott A. Baker, (Caihong), Houston, Texas. He is also survived by grandchildren Elizabeth and Catherine Baker of Cedar Rapids, Jamie and Whitney Baker of Pewaukee, and William Baker of Houston, Texas He was preceded in death by his parents, grandmother, and a brother, Joseph. A memorial service will be held Monday, September 22 at Cedar Heights Community Presbyterian Church (2015 Rainbow Drive, Cedar Falls, Iowa 50613) at 1:30 pm.
